Empowering Rural India
Creating income-generating opportunities for rural communities by transforming waste into valuable products through skill development and community-led initiatives.
DHOOP STICK PROJECT
Turning Waste into Livelihoods
India’s villages generate enormous quantities of cow dung, a natural resource that often remains underutilised and can contribute to methane emissions and unhygienic conditions when not managed properly.
Welweit Foundation has launched a women-led rural livelihood initiative focused on the manufacturing of eco-friendly dhoop sticks made from cow dung. This initiative creates employment opportunities for rural women while simultaneously addressing environmental and public health concerns.
The project empowers women with:
• Skill development and hands-on training
• Access to manufacturing equipment and raw material support
• Packaging and branding assistance
• Market linkages for sustainable income generation

Environmental & Social impact
• Reduces harmful emissions caused by decomposing cow dung
• Helps maintain cleaner village environments
• Controls the spread of diseases linked to unhygienic waste disposal
• Creates self-employment opportunities for rural women
• Promotes circular economy and sustainable rural enterprise
This initiative transforms a naturally available village resource into a valuable income-generating product while preserving the environment.
